VAT Done Right from Registration to First Return
UAE VAT has applied since 1 January 2018 under Federal Decree-Law No. 8 of 2017, at a standard rate of 5%. Registration is mandatory once taxable supplies pass AED 375,000 in 12 months and voluntary from AED 187,500.
Registering is straightforward when the application is right first time. We check whether you have crossed the threshold, prepare and submit the application on EmaraTax, answer any FTA queries and set up your invoices and accounting codes so the first return is clean. If you are not yet over the threshold, we tell you whether voluntary registration would let you recover VAT on your costs.

How VAT Registration Works
Six steps from threshold check to your first return.
- 01
Threshold Assessment
We review your last 12 months of taxable supplies and the next 30 days’ expected sales to confirm whether registration is mandatory or voluntary.
- 02
Application Preparation
Business details, activities, turnover evidence and customs information prepared for the EmaraTax application.
- 03
FTA Submission
The application submitted on EmaraTax, with any FTA clarification requests answered promptly.
- 04
TRN Issued
Once approved, your Tax Registration Number and VAT certificate are issued.
- 05
Invoice & System Setup
Tax invoice templates, VAT codes and pricing updated to meet FTA requirements.
- 06
First Return
Your first VAT return prepared and filed within 28 days of the end of the first tax period.
